Legs & Co. (barely) – Happy Birthday (not that one)

30 July 1981: Legs & Co. (barely) dance to Stevie Wonders’ Happy Birthday. From the old blog, Thursday, 27 September 2012: If you blink you’ll miss them, but Legs & Co. appear briefly among the audience, in the Top of the Pops mix of film footage, photos and audience dancing shots for Stevie Wonder’s Happy […]

Pan’s People – In Dulce Jubilo

Top of the Pops, 1 January 1976: Pan’s People dance to Mike Oldfield’s In Dulce Jubilo A suitably folksy routine, since this Mike Oldfield number is a traditional folk tune electrified. Plenty of gusto.

Legs & Co – Hopelessly Devoted To You

Top of the Pops, 9th November 1978: Legs & Co. dance to Hopelessly Devoted To You by Olivia Newton John. From the all conquering “Grease” soundtrack: Legs & Co. don some rather over-the-top frilly nighties to perform to this forlorn Olivia Newton John Ballad. Somehow the silver dancing shoes don’t seem to fit right with […]

Legs & Co – Casanova

Top of the Pops, 9 October 1980: Legs & Co dance to Casanova by Coffee. Yes, it’s those delightfully historically inaccurate outfits again. But then we do have to see their legs if we want to appreciate the choreography, don’t we? They’re not called “Historically Accurate Frocks & Co.” after all. From the old blog, […]

Legs & Co. – Cuba

Update 23 March: video clip upgraded. 28 February 1980: Legs & Co. briefly appear, as The Gibson Brothers peform Cuba I always enjoyed the Gibson Brothers, so it’s not too much of a chore to sit through two minutes of this infectious, feel-good disco hit, waiting to catch a short glimpse of Legs & Co., […]

Pan’s People – Fireball

Top of the Pops, 2 December 1971: Pan’s People dance to Fireball by Deep Purple. The BBC’s lack of interest in archiving most of its output back in the golden age of Pan’s People, means too many routines have disappeared entirely. So the survival of clips like this one are a rare blessing, even if […]

Pan’s People – A Little Bit of Love

Top of the Pops 22 June 72: Pan’s People dance to A Little Bit of Love by Free I have two versions of this classic Pan’s People performance to post, both unsatisfactory in their own separate ways. The first is the full routine, but the picture quality leaves a lot to be desired: The picture […]

Pan’s People – Buried Alive in the Blues

Pan’s People dance to Janis Joplins’ Buried Alive in the Blues from their residency on The Two Ronnies TV show (1973-4). Purple crushed velvet loon pants, tiny midriff-baring metallic turquoise waistcoats, with watch-chain accessories that add a slight biker feel to the otherwise urban groover ensemble. Weren’t the early seventies fabulous?

Pan’s People – Hip-Hug Her

Update, 13 February 2015: broken video clip replaced. Here’s a Pan’s People performance from their residency on The Two Ronnies (1973-4): dancing to Booker T and the MGs, “Hip-Hug Her”. From the old blog, Thursday, 5 June 2014: I think the lack of stress here is palpable: This is a seasoned dance group and choreographer, […]
